Cytometry, is a technique in which cells suspended in a fluid flow one at a time through a focus of exciting light, which is scattered in patterns characteristic to the cells and their components; cells are frequently labeled with fluorescent markers so that light is first absorbed and then emitted at altered frequencies. A sensor detecting the scattered or emitted light measures the size and molecular characteristics of individual cells; tens of thousands of cells can be examined per minute and the data gathered is processed by computer.

Biophotonics is a group of techniques that are based on the interaction of light and biological matter. Light is either employed to collect information (as in bio-imaging or optical diagnostic methods), or to process biological matter (as in light-activated therapies or tissue engineering).

The Laserboxx line of lasers are available in an “OEM” version, intended for system integration or in a “Plug & Play,” CDRH-compliant version for academic users. 

Multi-Wavelength Combiners:

The L4Cc and L6Cc LaserBoxx laser module combiner from Oxxius, dichroicly beam combines four/six different diode and/or DPSS lasers into a single optical beam path. From there the output can be delivered from one to four output ports, via free space or single-mode fiber optic cables.  Multiple outputs are often preferable when utilizing both ultraviolet and visible or infrared lasers in the same unit.  This flexibility allows for the use of both low OH fiber and solarization resistant fiber to improve the throughput and lifetime of the unit.  Additionally, an optional extension module can be added  for enhanced flexibility by integrating fast switching output ports for FRAP, and adjustable split power outputs for light sheet microscopy.L6Cc--300x182

The L6Cc and L4Cc wavelength laser module combiners are available in both OEM and turnkey versions, making it ideal for both systems integrators and laboratory users.  The unit can be directly modulated through analog and digital I/O or controlled by a computer graphical user interface via USB connection.

Continuous Wave for Cytometry:

RPMC Lasers has also partnered with Integrated Optics, they offer CW lasers for biophotonic applications, specifically cytometry.  Integrated Optics' MATCHBOX series of Lasers offer single or multi-mode outputs in an ultra-compact and robust format. This laser is a Volume Bragg Grating (VBG) stabilized diode laser, which is distinguished by high electrical efficiency and exceptional wavelength stability.  The integration of state of the art high-power amplifiers and proper management system enable quality at high average power with virtually no maintenance required.
