Raman spectroscopy, which is one of the fastest growing applications in laser spectroscopy, is a non-contact non-destructive wave of identifying and analyzing the molecular structure of a wide variety of different samples. This diversity in samples leads itself to a diversity in sampling methodology, making it difficult to know which laser is the best for your particular application. In this application note, we take a look at the specific question of whether or not to use a single-spatial-mode or multi-spatial-mode, covering topics such as sample color, uniformity, and crystallinity.
